Can't Access Ubuntu 9.10

Asked by Richiegs

After choosing Update Manger to update the latest files and restart the computer, I could not access Ubuntu 2.6.31-16 Generic. The message read as "Kernel panic : unable to mount root fs on unknown block." Can anyone please tell me what the problem is and how to fix it? Is it possible to reverse or undone the update that I had before?
Thank you very much

So wait, you have Ubuntu 9.10 and then you did an udpate, which resulted
in the kernel panic, if so then try booting into the safe mode (from
GRUB) and do sudo apt-get -f install.
