partially upgrade

whenever i used to update my system through update manager,a message displayed "not all updates can be installed".After clicking the partial upgrade a message displayed"could not calculate the upgrade".As i have upgraded the system ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10.Well,how can i get ride of it?Is there any problem with my system?

System>admin>software sources under ubuntu software check all except source and under updates tab check first two.Reload.

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

If these commands give you any error paste output hare

Try this:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get update

from the terminal and also try this out [1]
