Starting up Linux

Ok, I started up my computer with the CD in. ( I allready have windows xp, and I have 1 harddrive) I choose the first one, and when its loading at the part where it gets to Configuring X Then Uncompressing Linux...Ok, booting the Kernal came up.... Then it showed

[17179800.768000]Buffer I/O error on device hda, logical block 53698

Then the same thing keeps appering but the numbers increase. How can I fix this so that it works, do I have to get rid of windows or what please help, I really want linux but also windows. THX

Hello !

This message usually announce bad news about your hard disk ... You should perform a physical check on your drive (in Windows, it's the ScanDisk utility).

Last time I saw this error, 2 days later I was buying a new HD ... I hope yours will be saved in time ! (but you should backup your valuable data, just in case)
