when you type this in the terminal: "iwlist wlan0 scan" does it find you any network. also plz tell which laptop/netbook you using and you never stated its wired or wireless
it would be great if you come to the IRC, someone there might be able to help you.

can you give the output of:

sudo lshw -C network; ifconfig; sudo iwlist scan

some people report many issues in karmic, jaunty has 10 months of support in it so its no bad thing to use it and you will still get updates

Thank you for your replies. Anyway I finally decided to stick with jaunty. For trounleshooting I should install Karmic again :(
So I will go for Lucid next.... Thanks pals

The problem was solved when I configured my modem to connect automaticaly, without using the dialup.
