Problems with booting and Internet connection with 9.10
I have Ubuntu 8.04 and Vista installed on my PC (Dell Precision 390 Intel Core 2 duo - connected via Ethernet to a D-Link DSL-G604T router) and both operating systems work perfectly.
I recently also installed Ubuntu 9.10 (off a recently downloaded iso copy transferred to CD and checked for accuracy) to try but have had no success with it.
When 9.10 loads I appear to have an Internet connection (and when I "ping" ubuntu.com using the network tool I get 100% successful packets) but neither Firefox browser nor the Update Manager can then establish a connection.
There also appears to be a boot problem. If 8.04 has been running and I restart, 9.10 loads off the Grub menu normally. But if the PC has been turned off and I then attempt to boot 9.10, while the OS seems to be booting normally (it makes the right sounds), the screen goes into "energy save" mode and resists all attempts to come to life.
