Ubuntu Studio upgrade from Live?

Asked by pbesing

I have an IBM t60P and would like to run Ubuntu studio or Ubuntu 7, but it won't install due to the Graphical problems mentioned on other posts. I have the live version running now, so is it possible to upgrade to Ubuntu studio from within live, or do I just have to run the normal setup CD? My feeling is that if I run the Ubuntu Studio setup, I'll encounter the same problems, and screw up my working copy of Ubuntu 6x. Thanks!

Hello pbesing,

you could just insert the Ubuntustudio repositories after installing. Did you try the Ubuntustudio CD as it is using the alternate text-mode installer? You could also upgrade your existing Ubuntu to Feisty Fawn and then move to Ubuntustudio. Don't forget to make backups in any case.

Hope this helps,
Dennis

Running version 6, I inserted my version 7 CD, and it detects an Ubuntu CD, and gives me the option on what to install. I wasn't sure what options to pick. Do I just pick the 686 kernal, or are there other things that need to be selected?
When I run ubuntu studio or ubuntu 7 setup, I get the error that has been talked about before that fails to start the x server graphical interface. Manually selecting display settings, etc won't get past the error.
