flash plugin wont work

Asked by kai

I have had ubunto one day everything is more or less working except when I went to bbc7 to listen to show would not run and I tried to load flash player 10 but I get this error message on package manager "E:The package adobe-flashplugin needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it."
tried various things but cant get player to work can you help please I am a novice to this system and slightly confused having been used to windows xp setup but I must say that this seems faster and simpler once I get the hang of it.
I am running Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091109 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.5.5

Most websites work for me by installing the package "flashplugin-installer". This will download the Adobe flash player.

You can do so through package management or type on a command prompt:

$ sudo aptitude install flashplugin-installer

("$" indicating the command prompt, so you shouldn't actually type the dollar sign).

It wont, he has gone to the adobe site and downloaded the godforsaken deb which causes tonnes of issues.

please see this question:

Flash is on the repositories. In ubuntu it is MASSIVELY rare to go to a site and download stuff, most comes from the repositories which is why it is a lot easier to use Ubuntu than most other distributions

When you have used that guide and got square can you please give the output of:

dpkg -l | grep flash; dpkg -l | grep gnash; dpkg -l | grep swg

Thanks

thanks for the help it educated me in not going to a site and downloading stuff. I tried to follow your advice which was a little alien to me in the end I decided to reinstall complete system and have now got better insight in ubunto and learnt not to touch what I dont understand. It will be worth my while to learn a lot more.
