Can't download anything after upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10

Asked by zed

Hi all,

I've upgrade my Ubuntu from 9.04 to 9.10 then all my problem began.

at first i didn't manage to browse the Internet using firebox but my skype where connect OK, so after digging in i found that there is a problem with the IPV6 so i disable it in the about:config and manage to browse the Internet, next i found out that all kind of software not working like the update manager and the Ubuntu software center and even download plug-in via Firefox doesn't work so i manage to disable ipv6 to all system by editing rc.local file and now the inet6 line disappear but still no downloads at all.

please help

Thank you in advance,

Are you still using Legacy Grub?

If so open a terminal and run:

gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

Scroll down to the bottom and look for and add to kernel see below example:

title Ubuntu 9.10, kernel 2.6.31-14-generic
uuid 0eec5b6b-0010-410d-8007-7de9687bff23
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic root=UUID=0eec5b6b-0010-410d-8007-7de9687bff23 ro quiet ipv6.disable=1 splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-14-generic
quiet

So just to be sure you did add the option to turn ipv6 off at the grub boot line for your kernel.

Not just rc.local

Yes i did.

And to make sure it effect the kernel i turn the ipv6 back on in the firefox and succeed to surf the net , but to download still the problem remains :-( , maybe its another issue ?

Thank you in advance,
