Help with a keyboard prob

I've just installed Ubuntu 7.04 Fiesty and after instalation it asks you to remove cd from tray and restart.
I do this and when it says press enter to continue i can't it's gone! So has some other keys ie delete.
When i press return/enter i get ^M come up instead ??
How can i sort this out?

Do you have an AMD cpu and are you installing the 64 bits version?

Yeah sorry lost network usage for few days hasn't helped.
Ive been advised to try Fedora instead.
