I have 2 HDDs - how to install?

I have two HHDs - C & D; C has Windows XP on it, D is empty. If I place the installation CD in the drive before booting up, will I have the choice of which drive in which to install Ubuntu? I am using my spare PC for this, so it is not the end of the World if things go wrong!

When you install Ubuntu it will ask you to partition your drives. I expect that Windows drive C: is equivalent to Linux HDD drive /dev/sda and drive D: is equivalent to Linux HDD drive /dev/sdb. Install (requires repartitioning and formatting) to /dev/sdb.
Hope that helps.
Thank you Colin - I have now succesfully installed Ubuntu on D
