Ubuntu 9.1 crashed,had to pull AC plug to reboot.

was using Gmail when screen went black, there appeared a text for too short a time to read it and then black screen followed by reboot screen that froze at password request window. Unable to do anything so pulled the AC plug on the machine and repowered and from that point everything was normal.

You can also hold in the power button for 3-4 seconds to reboot when a machine is frozen. It's safer and easier than pulling the cord out of the wall.

Thanks Greg, I did not know about holding the power button. The problem did not reoccur.
