how to install mplayer

how to install mplayer or any application.
plz help i m pretty new to linux n i m a bit confuse dat whether to install em d windows way or by some command.

You can install by going to
a) Applications → Software Center, browse for it, select an application and click the arrow
b) System → Administration → Synaptic Packet Manager, browse, mark an application for installation and apply the changes

sudo apt-get install package_name

BTW: TAB auto completion works on the package name:
