Cannot set DNS provided by my ISP

Asked by eugenia

This question has been answered but NOT RESOLVED.

The closest I got was https://help.ubuntu.com/community/StaticDnsWithDhcp which I tried but now end up with no DNS when I reboot. All I want is the static DNS with the static IP that I used to have.

Surely someone at Ubuntu knows the correct answer as it only happened after I "upgraded" to Feisty.

Only had this problem since upgrading to Feisty.

My ISP have provided me with 2 DNS server addresses which I have been using for the past 4 years.

"Your static IP hasnt been changed from what I have seen on our system.
Can you please confirm exactly what has changed? The DNS server address
are still 203.87.88.1 and 203.87.88.2. These have not changed."

I have a home network in which I have set static IP addresses and the above DNS Server addresses but since I have changed to Feisty I cannot stop the computer which is connected to the internet from defaulting to 203.12.160.35 even though I tried to stop this by changing /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/resolv.conf.

This means that I am constantly having to delete 203.12.160.35 and re-input the correct addresses.

How do I get rid of this annoying 203.12.160.35?

I think this could be the network-manager fiddling with the DNS configuration. There should be a way to stop it from dynamically retrieving the DNS from your ISP. Unfortunately I have removed nm since long so I cannot point you to the right option; you should try either left or right clicking on the nm icon (the one in the top right corner).

Using Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron desktop version, I can achive connection to my ISP because I can enter the dialup number into the network manual configuration window. I cannot however connect to the ISP server because the manual configuration window will not save the primary and secondary IP addresses. Am I doing anything wrong, or is this a bug?

Can you help with this problem?
