Audio problem with my laptop running 9.10

Asked by hank90

I did an upgrade from 9.04 ro 9.10 on my Compaq laptop and found a clicking sound when the computer boots and then if I stream video or use any media player there is a repeated clicking sound from the speakers. Then I did a clean reboot of 9.10 and the problem was identical. It happens about every 10 seconds. This happens even when I have headphones plugged in. 9.04 did not do this.

If I let the system idle from the start it doesn't do it or if use non-audio programs. I have not run a proprietary driver for the sound card. One has not been offered up to this point from the update program. I can't remember for sure if I had a different driver from HP running on 9.04 version.
