snd-hda-intel: spurious response messages in dmesg --> sound not working on MSI GX630 laptop in Ubuntu 9.10 - using ALSA driver 1.0.20

Well, I ran parts 3-4 of the sound diagnostic, and the results will be in my first post... however, they're a bit odd, as I haven't seen anything quite like it from anyone else.

First try disabling the Si3054 Modem using Jockey, previously known as Restricted Drivers Manager. It might interfere with your soundcard.

Your ALSA output shows the following muted channels:

Sorry, but I'm a bit new to computers in general, much more so to Ubuntu... when I opened the Hardware Drivers, there was no option to disable the Si3054 modem. Is there any other way to do so? Also, I unmuted IEC958 and off-hook and rebooted, but there is still no sound.

So I suggest retesting sound during an Ubuntu 9.04 LiveCD session. If sound works in the Ubuntu 9.04 LiveCD session and does not work in an Ubuntu 9.10 LiveCD session, then there must be a regression/bug in the Ubuntu 9.10 kernel or ALSA drivers (for this audio chip).

Okay, I checked it in 9.04, and it wasn't working there either. I'm thinking it may be a hardware issue, and as it's still under warranty, I'll most likely ship it back to them and have them fix/replace it.
