I have a Dell Iinspiron 2560 with 256 mb of ram and a NVIDIA video card. I have rescently got an Ubuntu installation cd in the mail. I put it in my Dell Laptop and turn it on and it will not play the Live CD. The instructions say to have the CD in the drive and either restart or turn off and back on your computer. How can i get the live cd to play so I can actually install ubuntu.

You will have to edit the bios to allow the CD to boot before the hard drive. I think you press F2 on a dell to enter the bios. You can also press F12 to load a one time boot menu. That might be easier but you will have to do it each time you want to boot the CD. After pressing F12 arrow down to the option that says CD or similar. That should cause the CD to boot.

If your bios is similar to mine (D620) you will go to the "boot sequence" option under system. It might be different on your machine but look for something about boot devices. Select it and press enter to change the boot sequence. On my dell, I highlight the cd/dvd entry and then press the U key to move it to the top. Press enter after making the changes and then esc to exit and save. It's possible the process is a bit different on your system but should be similar enough to figure out.

(You can often press F12 on newish Dells while the bios progress bar is moving across to get a boot options menu to appear)

Can you help with this problem?
