I have an old laptop with a virus, can't get past desktop...
I need some help rescuing an old laptop.
Here's the scoop, it's a Dell INSPIRON E1505, WIndows XP and apparently it got virus at some point (its my mother inlaw's destined for the junk heap).
When booting the desktop is the only thing that appears.. I tried booting to the ubuntu installation cd and got a bus error, apparently the windows file system has errors only I don't know how to fix them from the setup menu, I don't even know how to get to the command line :/
Can you help me get rid of windows and switch over to Ubuntu, or should I throw it on the scrap heap?
Thanks!
~Now I'm stuck at login, I didn't get to set up a username and password yet but am getting prompted for them and am stuck... I tried control alt f1, but can't get anywhere. When I tried to install again I got a msg about the kernel, buffer errors and unable to read page errors. The script suggests a site but its hard to read before the screen fills with unable to read page errors...
