automatic bug report and analysis of stacktrace

Asked by Šarūnas Valaškevičius

Hi,

could auto report bug be a bit more user friendly?

it is already quite nice, but when it opens a page with "choose one reported before" I always get scared :D
i.e. I do not know if it is same bug by just poking around all headers of bugs etc.. and I dont want by not knowing to select one misleadingly, so that developers would get angry ;) also - they do get angry if same bug is reported twice.. or hundreds of times.. but... it is better to have users to report at all, isnt it?

at first what I did is to ignore some bugs and did not report them at all. and the thing which stopped me was exactly this page.

could there be auto analysis of stack traces and so it could auto-detect same bugs? (e.g. netbeans bug reporting)

Regards,
Šarūnas

This might be a good idea for http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/ , where people make suggestions on how to improve Ubuntu. (Unfortunately you will need to make another account to post there, as it won't simply use your launchpad account.)

If this is the auto-report on crash (does it look like the information on this page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport ), you might also want to file a wishlist bug against apport, https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bugs

Or you can get in touch with the BugSquad and make the suggestion, they might be able to help route it.
