Karmic Koala 9.10 hangs during install on Gateway

Asked by Wayne Chapman

I have been trying to install Karmic on a Gateway GM5478. It is currently running Vista. I have install a second 195 gig hard drive for Ubuntu to install on. There is 4 gig of ram in the machine and the rest is stock. Install gets to the 80 % point and hangs.
I set the partition to be 1 gig for the swap and the rest for root. I have used the same iso created cd to install on and older hp/compaq desktop with no apparent install problems.
Suggestions? My knowledge of Linux is limited as I have just starting to self teach it.
Thanks for any help!
