configuring eth0

Asked by Erez Amit

Hi,

I'm having problems configureing my eth0 interface (or any other ethernet one). I tried using 'ifup' but I think that my /etc/network file doesn't have the correct details for eth0. How can I figure out which address, netmask, network should be there?

Thanks,
Hertzel

Hello...
First thing first...Is your network interface card is detected...if not try to configure first the network card to be up and running.. after configuring try to ask with your network system administrator what will be the IP address, Subnet mask and your gateway...or try to configure using DHCP if you have a DHCP server running in your network....

Thanks...Hope it will help...

to restart the networking daemon you need to do:
/etc/init.d/networking restart
in a terminal
