Firefox Memory Leaks

Asked by Somebody

My Firefox 1.5.0.3 with the latest Java and flash plugins regularly leaks memory, especially when running netropolis.lineone.net

It gets to the point when it starts to use my full RAM (I set no swap space), and so, it crashes my computer. However, in sysmon, it looks as if Xorg is causing it, but it only happens when firefox is being utilised.

I just found out that it ACCELERATES when Firefox is used, and happens anyway. In sysmon, the process Xorg steadily accumulates RAM used.

You should probably file this as a bug into https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+bugs or maybe Xorg bugzilla...

Maybe you should setup some swap (no need for a partition, a swap file would do just fine), just to be able to recover more gracefully. It will give you time to logout from X environement, and maybe even just restart X by the CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE combo-key. to have its memory freed. The swap will let you feel the moment it would have crashed, because it will slow down tremendously, but won't crash immediately, so giving you a grace period.

Then try to help the Xorg team find the problem, if it is proven that the X server is the culprit.

Can you help with this problem?
