Install of 9.1 fails midway
Newbie installing Ubuntu 9.1 onto an HP1010NR netbook from USB stick. Boot goes fine to install options screen. The test disk and test memory functions work fine. The load Ubuntu or install Ubuntu scripts fail midway. To see what is happening I hit tab and remove the "quiet spash --". The fail message is: "Can not mount /dev/loop1 on /cow" I tried the "noapic nolapic", "pci=noacpi" "lapic pci=routeirq" "irqpoll" "apic=off" suggested on the web with same result. Netbook has solid 8Gb drive with 2Gb open. WinXP has the rest. I have not set a separate partition. I want to remove WinXP and use whole SSD under Ubuntu.
Is there a fix to get the script to complete the install?
How can I walk thro the script to see each line and response to see what happens before this point?
I've been reading up on Ubuntu and really want to get going. All suggestions appreciated.
