Custom login screens - are they gone in 9.10?

Asked by tadiv

I have been using a custom login screen of over a year now (on 8.04 and 9.04). Yesterday I upgraded the 9.04 machine to 9.10 and when I select System > Administration > Login Screen (8.04 says "Login Window") all I get is an option dialog giving me the options for the default login screen - I don't seem to be able to install / choose a custom screen anymore... Am I missing something, or has the option to have a custom login screen gone away?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

This feature was removed from gdmsetup. Check bug 454420:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/454420

I also find this issue really annoying, check the bug and click on "Does this bug affect you?" to raise awareness of this error.

Nice -- the commentary in the bug report reads like Microsoft - "This is how it is, too bad if you don't like it." Oh well at least we're not paying over $100 for a license to take that attitude. Thanks, Luis, for digging up the info...
