SystemError: Failed to lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock

today i installed the Karmic kola 9.10 64 bit version of ubuntu and receiving error "SystemError: Failed to lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock" upon updating the graphics driver and other updates.
Also the update manager is not able to install updates due to this error.

If you've rebooted your machine and you still get this error then why not just remove it. Open up an console and type:

sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/lock

See if that helps

The issue is resolved after rebooting. Now i am able to install updates.

hi i wanted to install the driver for 3D ATI Radeon, and i'm new to UB and it automatically tried to download but it kinda stopped at a download period of 60% and then i got this mess SystemError: Failed to lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock and it stopped de downloadin then its not workin again

help........!!
