Could not download all repository indexes
Hi there,
I installed Ubuntu for the first time in my life a few weeks ago. Worked like a charm. Wanted to upgrade to Koala today and getting the error message:
Error:
Could not download all repository indexes
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

are these characters in your file:
«
or are they glitches in my browser?
Enya (enya-findmemail) said : | #6 |
No, they are not glitches in your browser, they do exist in my file. I provided the exact copy from the terminal
ok well those are bad
all instances of "«." delete them, notice how the commented out lines do not have this character pair, this is normal.
You will need to run:
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/
to get write access, you can then save the file and run:
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade

I have edited the sources list now, saved it and run the both commands you gave me. Checked with the update manager - exactly the same error message like before, the problem still exists.
Enya (enya-findmemail) said : | #9 |
I have now also deleted the dots after «, seems like it's working. Give me a half an hour to run the system again and confirm the change.
cool, weird how you had those characters.
Enya (enya-findmemail) said : | #11 |
Solved. I deleted the characters and the dots and was able to upgrade to Koala afterwords. Just, ever since the upgrade - I am not able to connect to the internet and writting this from my old and slow computer.
Many, many thanks guys!
Best regards from Germany
