ubuntu 9.1 installation through USB flash drive, setup hangs

Asked by Rachit

While installing ubuntu 9.10 through a USB flash drive, the setup hangs in the beginning itself. After showing the ubuntu flash screen, it goes blank or sometimes a wallpaper is loaded then it hangs. I wait for about 10-15 minutes but nothing happens. I have installed ubuntu 9.04 using a USB flash drive only. I tried using both unetbootin and using usb-creator in ubuntu 9.04 (System-->Administration-->Create a USB startup disk). The ubuntu live also does not load. I checked the installer for errors but it says none. I was able to install ubuntu within my Windows using this same installer.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
Did you verify the USB once initially booted to?
Have you run a memory test?

Hey thanks for responding.

I just successfully managed to install ubuntu 9.10 through another flash drive (the same installation .iso file)

seems like my first flash drive had some problem.

Well, USB is pretty slow, you could use the alternate CD to make it faster
