error codes what they mean

my daughters computer is set up with ubuntu but she is having problems so I tierd to fix and got error 18 or 81 one of them didn't know what it mean't thanks

they can mean anything you got to be more specific. Where did they come from? what app crashed? did it happen on startup? did it happen with a specific app? was it caused by hardware. Linux isn't windows so its not a generic error code it refers to a program that is having the problem. if you can tell us what you were doing the time it occured we can help you better

You're most likely talking about a GRUB error 18.

thanks for everyones help I had to finnaly reboot the hard drive Itried the live cd and then look into the hard drive to see what was wrong couldn't figure ir out so I rebooted the rebooted withh 8.10 disk that I got and it up and running took over my daughters and me and her got the updates and everything working says working ok dad she has always been on windows machine and this is new to her but hope to win her over thanks guys and gals as always your always there if ya need help God Bless you all Otom
