does nvidia driver update to the most current release?

Asked by Mark Cariaga

Hi,

I have installed the ubuntu recommended 185.18 drivers on the 9.10 release. Nvidia has release 190.42 driver which promises better support for H.264 formats. When will this be available via repositories? Would it be better just to install the package using methods stated in the ubuntu forums?

it talks about version 190.25 (Beta), but this should get you 192.42 as well

Thanks for the link. do you have an idea when 190.42 will be available
using synaptic? I have tried the how-to's from ubuntuforums for 185.18
when I was still using 9.04, and it works pretty well. Back then i
really need to upgrade from 180 to 185 due to regression in power
management caused by the display driver. As I have mentioned the new
driver 190.42 promises performance improvements in handling HD versus
the 185.18 driver, but I'm in no rush to change to it. Having that said,
I would like to know when it will be package and posted through
synaptic?
