xcursor selection does nothing

if I select system>administration?Cursor selection nothing happens if I click any of the options. Also my cursor flickers, or has a blinky section of the right side of it in some windows now and is on a seperate question thread.. See https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/86595

i updated to karmic and that utility still does nothing... However my mouse does not appear to be flickering anymore...
