Complete lockup of all shell related applications

Asked by Danny

Hi,

My Acer Aspire 9420 with the latest Kubuntu Karmic beta (daily updated) frequently freezes part of the system. These freezes appear to be initiated by Konsole. There is a Bug report https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-keyboard/+bug/443318 but i do not believe at this time xserver-xorg-input-keyboard package is the problem.

When my Konsole session freezes i am unable to open any other application that provides shell access, i cannot witch to text-console and cannot access a shell through SSH from antother machine. Everything shell related is impacted by this bug!

The reported bug does not seem to get any attention which may be caused by the wrong assignment? What can i do to get this bug noticed?

Hi,

I guess that the package associated to the bug should be changed, otherwise, the devs handling of the faulty package will never know about it. It's clear that the shell is actually involved in this, but it could be a consequence, rather than a cause, of the bug. What about Konsole?

I think Konsole would be the correct package but when i search source packages i cannot find it?

I have changed the package to kdebase, i believe that's the source package for Konsole.

The bug has been bumped back to xserver-xorg-input-keyboard by Jonathan Thomas for the following reason:

The original report is about a keyboard lag that comes from something
lower-level than konsole,

While i do agree with Thomas that it is probably lower-level than Konsole i fail to see how xserver-xorg-input-keyboard can affect even a shell started by sshd?
