How do you know if Ubuntu 20091020.3 won't boot because of h/w support (new netbook model)

Installed Ubuntu Karmic 20091020.3 on a brand new Acer AS1410. The live USB worked fine (but slow getting started), wifi fine, ran fine, installed fine, but re-booting fails. I suspect it's a problem with brand new hardware not supported, how do I confirm this and what kind of info can I provide to help resolve it? If true, would this mean I won't be able to run Karmic at all?
