How to install AverTV Ultra 116 (CX23416) in Ubuntu 9.10

Asked by H Cakr

I have an Avermedia AverTV Ultra 116 tv tuner card. Which unfortunately i am unable to get it working... due to my lack of expertise, I guess.

When i type lspci i get the following output:
02:01.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc iTVC16 (CX23416) MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01)

also this is my dmesg output:

[ 16.642086] ivtv0: Loaded v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw firmware (376836 bytes)

While loading Ubuntu 9.10 beta I get couple of error messeges saying unrecognised ivtv device.

Please help me install this TV Tuner Card.

Some links on ivtv official site and links like these http://www.videohelp.com/capturecards/avermedia-avertv-mce-116-plus/817
say that this card is supported by linux. If it is? Why is not supported by default in Ubuntu?

If it is supported please tell me the procedure to install the device and configure it to watch analogue cable tv.

Thank you.

What are the messages which say "unrecognized"? I don't see them in the info you included above. Something like this:

[ 13.865528] ivtv0: Unknown card: vendor/device: [4444:0016]
[ 13.865533] ivtv0: subsystem vendor/device: [1461:c034]
[ 13.865536] ivtv0: cx23416 based

If it is not recognized, you may need to submit this info to the ivtv-devel upstream group. If it is recognized, you may have a defective card (can you check it via windows?).

"unrecognised ivtv" messeges comes in the boot screen... i dont know how to copy that and paste here.

anyway, if the above dmesg and lspci outputs are correct how do i get the tuner to work in Ubuntu 9.10? I tried tv-time but it doesn't work for me.

also what are these type of errors due to?

Here is a picture of the card, it is also known as M113 PCI Analog TV I guess.
http://www.bttv-gallery.de/high/CardFront.jpg_avermedia_1461_c019_a.jpg
Its the same card that I have but having a different name. The chips and features all the same.

I found an interesting link here also... http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/ivtv/devel/40113?search_string=cx23416%20%20ubuntu%209.04;#40113

Still no solution, that I can follow up with. :(
