How can ext4 make 1,1 GB disappear?

Asked by oddvar

I just converted my external 20GB harddisk from ext3 to ext4. I used Gparted to unmount and make a new ext4 partition. How can it be possible that 1,1GB of disk is in use after formatting?

Maybe you have a larger journal. You can make the journal smaller. Are you sure it wasnt ext2 to ext4 (ext2 has zero journal and would make sense)
