Wouldn't be better to read a book? I mean, a serious answer would take quite a number of pages......

I'm adding here some links which should help you started in your quest:

http://tldp.org/
http://www.linux.org/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix

In a nutshell:

>the differences between unix and linux

linux is an unix implementation

>what is the latest version of linux?

There is no such thing. The kernel (which is the core of the OS) is at version 2.6.21.5 (stable, see http://kernel.org/).

Linux isnt provides as Windows. Instead, it is provided in what we call a "distribution", which is a sort of packages that make a functional SO.

Ubuntu is an example of a GNU/Linux distribution.

Can you help with this problem?
