just wait another 12 days new ubuntu release is coming install that... that is much richer than 904 performance wise.
and use ubuntu in dual boot mode by installing from the installation cd and not wubi... at least new release burn on to a cd then do the installation

Are you tring to install Ubuntu using Wubi...?

I suggest you to install Ubuntu NOT using Wubi.

If you have installed Ubuntu via Wubi please uninstall it read
http://wubi-installer.org/faq.php and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide

Installing Ubuntu using Wubi make Ubuntu less robust and all problems that you will have to Windows can be affect your Ubuntu partition file.

I strongly suggest you to install Ubuntu+Windows in dual mode creating a real Ubuntu ext3 or ext4 partition.
In this mode you can use Ubuntu and Windows ad usual and then using installed Ubuntu you can save or repair damaged (due viruses or other issue) Windows partitions data.

- Here the steps to install Ubuntu 9.04 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GraphicalInstall there is also at top of that page a video that show the installing process

Is very easy to install, if you need info please ask.

Hope this helps

Then Ubuntu 9.10 is near to be released i suggest you to download the iso image of Ubuntu live install cd from here:

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/karmic-desktop-i386.iso

make your cd and try to install from it...

Then making regular updates you will have the final release...

Hope this helps
