Skype on Jaunty problems

Asked by sts

Hi
I have recently switched from Vista to Ubuntu (My work here gets done a lot faster ... thank you Ubuntu) and want to make the transition complete. The only thing standing in my way is Skype. Each time I have to skype I am having to log into windows. Following is the problem :
I downloaded the beta version of skype from their website and installed it. The installation went fine and I can IM with my friends and family. However when I call them or they call me, I can hear them talk but they cant hear me. I have done the echo test and that seems to be working. I have tried using the headset mike and the computer mike but still the problem persists.
Could anyone please help me solve this issue and complete my transition to windows.
Thanks in advance
STS

I want to make sure I read you right: 'I have done the echo test and that seems to be working.' In the test call, you record a message after the beep. You're supposed to hear your own message afterwards. Did you hear your own voice?

Hi Richard
Thanks for replying. Yes I am able to listen to the message that I recorded. I played around a bit with all the sound options too. None of them seem to be working.
Thanks

OK RICHARD IT TAKES A FEW MINUTES TO FIX

i went through that in the summer and hopefully will be able to help

1 open skype
2 click on blue skype sign down on the left
3 options/soundevices
4 try all different sound cards listed
5 do the Make a test call for each one of them ( at the moment you are probably on default option and that is probably not the one you want to use )

good luck that should do it

if you have problems with video come and ask again
