Lost space on USB Flash

Asked by Ragnar

Ok, ppl, here we go. Recently I bought Kingston Datatraveler G2 16GB USB Flash Drive. Used it a few times. Today I plugged it again and saw that almost all space was somehow lost! 16GB turned into a 8MB! Plz, ppl, help me to recover the lost space!

Not sure how it occured, but you can try recreating the filesystem.
1. sudo apt-get install gparted dosfstools mtools
2. System > Admin > GParted
3. Select your flash drive on top-right dropdown
4. Device > Create Partition Table
5. Partition > New > fat32
6. Apply (tick)

Is it mounted? You can unmount it using nautilus (left had panel)

Have you fsc'd the device when it is unmounted?

Do you use the device in Windows PCs too?

I am not sure if this might help, but when I suppress files on my USB flash memory, it goes to the trash bin of the flash memory. Thus eating up spaces.
You could try to empty the trash bin once the USB Flash is pluged in. Or you could try to display all files in Nautilus file manager to see it you haven't hidden files that eat up the space.

Can you help with this problem?
