display frequency setting

Asked by achapp

hello ,
I am running ubuntu fiesty fawn . The display card for my pc is the nvidia geforce . I have configured the desktop effects using the restricted driver nvidia-glx . The problem I am facing is with the display frequency setting . The choices available are 50,54 and 55 hz .The option 50 hz cause the screen to flicker much . So the available options are 54 and 55 . But this also causes some flickering if the desktop is kept idle for some time . the flickering is prominent when the screen saver comes into act . when i was using the normal nvdia driver the frequency was set at 60 hz and it was working fine . Please guide me in setting up the frequency to 60 hz with the restriicted driver . My monitor is samsung syncmaster 510N LCD

I think you should use the original nvidia driver.

But try

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

and choice "Advanced" configuration for your monitor, then you can enter the correct frequency

or edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf and enter the frequency manual

Might be the proper refresh rate "problem" mentioned on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia#troubleshooting ...

Can you help with this problem?
