bandwidthd corrupted, won't remove or update

Asked by Samdidliambo

I am trying to get a bandwidth/internet usage monitor installed so I can see how much(total upload download especially) of a shared internet connection I am using. I tried to install bandwidthd, which was recommended, but I don't know how to open it, as it didn't leave an application in the menu. At any rate, It will not upgrade or remove itself using synaptic package manager.

When I try to upgrade, I get this: "E: /var/cache/apt/archives/bandwidthd_2.0.1+cvs20071208-3_i386.deb: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 2"

When I try to remove: "E: bandwidthd: Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should "

I tried to mark it for reinstall, but the option is greyed out, as is mark for installation.

I could not find it under system > preferences or system > admin. I clicked on system > preferences > main menu, but nothing happened - no "main menu" application/menu got launched.

Right click on applications>edit menus and try to find it there. If you can not find it delete it with

sudo apt-get --purge remove bandwidth

Download deb package from http://sourceforge.net/projects/bandwidthd/files/ and try to install again.

Can you help with this problem?
