i'm having trouble with Skype....

Asked by joe8

i just installed hardy 8.04, and also upgraded my skype to the 2.1 version. i can make out going calls, but can't be heard!!
when i try to change the sound settings on skype, no other choice is available but pulse audio default. i tried downloading all types of drivers and sound stuff, but i cant seem to make it work. i have a usb skype phone, and it use to work fine with the old skype 1.0 i got the phone because my headphone and microphone options do no work. is there any way to get my skype working again?? what if i upgraded my system to 9.04? would that solve my problems?

I have a USB Internet phone too.

I tried the latest beta - the 2.1 version. It works fine with a headset plugged into the sound card - but it would not work with my USB Internet phone.

I ended up removing the beta and installing the previous version. Now it works again!

It looks like i solved the problem!!! after two days of searching through my drivers, sound options, PulseAudio GStreamer, ALSA, upgrading with every kind of package imaginable that had to to with sound, posting questions on two different forums and testing my audio options with all types of configurations- all i needed in the end was Skype Beta 3.0 !!!
i finally gave up all hope a few minutes ago, then decided to reinstall skype 2.0. so when i went to my synaptic manager and typed in skype in the search box, it pulled up skype 2.0 and skype-midi. i had no idea what this new Skype was, so i installed the package- its a whole new skype! i have 8.04, and it works just fine with it!! I'll also add that the new interface for skype 3.0 is clean and easy to use. in the sound settings you can choose any sound option that you have installed in your computer!!! i have a Skype USB Skype phone and i just select the USB phone option and it works fine.
