which is better change to linux programs or use wine

Asked by szaemon

Too much information. I'm lost. Should I change my Windows files to some Ubunto equivalent or try to install my Windows programs in Ubuntu? I am a computer novice, but I've done quite a lot of work with my Windows Applications because they are almost idiot proof. I need the stuff unchanged and editable, right now I can't even get my proper Fonts back. Please give me some advice. Thank You.

What applications are you talking about?
Using Linux exclusively with Wine doesn't make any sense, you should use as many native applications as you can.

I think you should decide from case to case. It is alway a good idea to work with the linux / GNU programs. But sometimes it is necessary to use wine. For Photoshop e.g. . And most of the ubuntu programs with a GUI are almost idiot proof, too ;)

At the moment I'm thinking mostly about Publisher. Going case by case is fine, but transferring files over always seems to mess them up and I haven't successfully installed any Windows programs yet. I get quite confused over all the little adjustments needed and find myself deleting from and adding to files I don't know anything about. Eventually I end up removing everything and starting over. Using Linux seems like the better of the 2 options, but which programs should I chose? (That's about 50% rhetorical) I've seen one link in this forum that suggested a web site with a list of possible replacement programs for Windows, but that link caused Firefox to close. I followed different bits of advice in how to stop Firefox from closing itself down at random, but to know avail. All this "REAL" computer work scares the stinky brown stuff out of me. Has anyone ever tried to sue MS for handicapping their customers. Thanks for the quick response sinn3r and Cesare. I'm off to bed now. Good Night World.
