Asked by Pablo

Dear all,
I have an AMD-64 laptop with Ubuntu 7.04 installed and running. Is there any way to install Adobe flash' plugins to Firefox to this platform (for YouTube, for example)?
regards,

Thank you for your question.

Adobe flash doesn't support 64 bit. You need install a 32 bit browser in your system first and later install the flash player.

If you use automatix you can install Swiftfox 32 bit version and after the plugin.

Swiftfox is a firefox version it works like firefox.

You can use nspluginwrapper in 64bits systems to wrap around 32bits plugins.

It isn't in the ubuntu repository, so you must compile it yourself.

Now, Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon has nswrapperplugin in the repository. But unfortunately, the flashplayer I downloaded from Adobe's site now is not recognized by nswrapperplugin. I get the error message 'nspluginwrapper: libflashplayer.so is not a valid nspluginwrapper plugin'. I have libflashplayer.so and flashplayer.xpt in my /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins directory. Any help would be appreciated. Flash is so important nowadays. When will this treadmill end? :-(.

On gutsy just visit a flash web site, click to install the plugin, select flash and it will be automatically set up. On 64 bit systems it add the needed 32 bit libraries and automatically configures everything. You could also install from synaptic or add/remove.

That worked for me. Thank you for the fast response. I did that for Feisty, but now I will remember that 'Install Missing Plugins...' could turn up the goodies on newer distributions.
