How can I downgrade GTK+?

Asked by Jason Bourne

I'm using a new installation of Ubuntu 7.04, and have installed fluxbox 1.0rc3. In fluxbox, any time the GTK+ "save file" dialog appears, the windows rapidly resizes itself a couple times a second, making the dialog almost unusable. This does not happen, however, while using Gnome. After searching the internet, this seems to be a problem with GTK+ 2.10.11, the version installed by Ubuntu. I would like to downgrade GTK+ to a lower version, since it is reported that lower versions do not have this issue. Is it possible to downgrade GTK+ using the package manager? I do not want to go through the headache of having to downgrade from source code...

Thanks.

hi,

The problem with 'downgrading' GTK is that all the other applications (such as gnome ones) are built against the current gtk version, as such downgrading gtk would cause said programs to either segmentation fault or cause other problems. as a result downgrading such as this is not possible in the package manager. you will either need to compile a new version of GTK2 from source (which is not as hard as it sounds) or downgrade your system to Ubuntu 6.10.

it is also a good idea to post a 'bug report' ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/+filebug ) in the hopes of drawing attention to this problem and it being fixed.

Can you help with this problem?
