you do not have a simple way to log bugs when your system fails: You have some obsolete package versions installed. Please upgrade the following packages and check if the problem still occurs:
.jockey-gtk, findutils, python-support, whiptail, consolekit, libssl0.9.8, python, jockey-common, libgtk2.0-0, libidl0, synaptic, python-apt, debconf, adduser, passwd, python2.6, python-minimal, python2.6-minimal, libglib2.0-0, libck-connector0, libcups2, libhal1, debconf-i18n, libnewt0.52, x11-common, libkrb53, libhal-storage1, libglade2-0, libhunspell-1.2-0, libvte9, python-gobject, libvte-common, liblaunchpad-integration1, libxml2, python-glade2, python-central, libgtk2.0-common, libc6, python-gtk2, cpp .This the popup i get arfter trying to enable visual effects then it searches for upgrade .i all ways send bugs when asked but if this is what i got to do to loge when machine whont .its a waste of time speshilly if not inportent

I'm having trouble understanding what problem you're having. Here's what it looks like is happening:

1. You try to enable visual effects.
2. A system error occurs.
3. The system presents you with a popup saying that some of your packages are out of date, and that updating the packages might fix the error.
4. The system "searches for upgrade".

Do you actually perform the system upgrade? If you get this error even after upgrading your system, then there's probably a bug in Ubuntu. Otherwise, try upgrading your system and see if the problem goes away.
