If after inserting ubuntu CD the PC boots into windows, enter the BIOS and set the CD as the 1st boot unit. THen, insert the CD and pick the Install/Start Ubuntu option

get in ur system's BIOS configuration and choose ur CD\DVD rom drive to boot before ur Hard Drive. (u may need the mother board's manual for this)
then reboot ur PC while the cd\dvd is in the drive and it should boot normally.

after it boots and everything loads up u should find an icon to install UBUNTU on ur hard drive.

Do you have more than one optical drive? If so make sure you are putting your CD in the one that boots first, also if you modified your BIO's you should then restart and then see if you can now boot into the CD. If the problem continues I would try downloading another copy of Ubuntu because it is possible that the one you downloaded is corrupt.

the story goes like this :-
i have a computer which operayes on windows xp professional and some one told me here to keep the CD/DVD as the first sector to boot and then the hard drive.i have one and only one CD/DVD drive. But still therez a problem.I checked the CD which contains Ubuntu OS,it is not corrupt as it showed in the site about the software.
Now what to do next ?
is there any alternate method of booting or installling UBUNTU ?

But still therez a problem, which?

What happen when you select the CD/DVD as 1stBoot, insert the Ubuntu CD and turn on the PC again.

I do not know any alternates *without* the CD doesn't even boot.
Can you boot with other CDs, try the Windows installer CD, when the setup start, you know you can boot from CD.

Yes, you did it the correct way and if you have selected CD/DVD as 1stBoot i do not see any reasons why it should not boot from CD.

I can not help you much more then saying

1. go in your BIOS and select CD/DVD as 1stBoot devices
2. insert the ubuntu CD
3. reboot

Now it should prompt the ubuntu CD menu.

BTW @ezerider : sure you have a 64bit cpu?

Hm, maybe you should download a new iso from here

http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-releases/feisty/

and burn it. Maybe your iso is corrupted.

The shipping service is not very fast.
a friend of mine has waited for weeks, then a newer ubuntu was already released ;)

Download and burn a new iso on cd is much shorter.

Just as a note, when burning CD's you can get better results by burning them at slower speeds. Also. Boot to windows, then insert the CD and see if it runs. If not try double clicking the cd drive. If nothing then, select explore and look at the contents of then CD. If you see only one file then it may be that you just burnt the ISO to the CD as a copy and not make a cd from the .iso file.

Good Luck.
