From terminal you can use "chmod" command to know more , type "man chmod" without quotes in terminal.
Or right click on the folder and goto properties and permissions.

you need to open nautilus which is the root can open it in a terminal by typing: "sudo nautlius" but be careful with this command as its hidden for a reason, with this command you can modify all contents of your computer thus being able to delete essential files and so on. Then just chage the permissions as you said. I hope this helps, Regards sophiaxena

I have tried both suggestions to gain permission to my folders, however the system still will not let me in. Any help is appreciated. I am running 10.04 LTS

Can you help with this problem?
