Installing 6.06 on Mac Intel Duo (Parallels)

Asked by Jason77

I am trying to download Ubuntu 6.06 LTS on to my macbook pro with parallels and the error message "this is not an amd64 machine. Please install the i386 distribution" keeps appearing and the program won't boot. i have noticed a few other ppl have had the same problem - but can't find the answer to resolve. Is it something i am doing at download stage?

When downloading i select the "64bit AMD and Intel computers" as my mac uses Intel duo: the other options being "Standard personal computer (x86 architecture, PentiumTM, CeleronTM, AthlonTM, SempronTM)" and "Sun UltraSPARC based" which is not correct (i think - sorry am a bit of a novice!).

Or; could it be to do with the settings i am selecting during the Parallels set up? ie: i set the virtual hard drive at: 20048 mb - but do not think it is this

- anyone else experienced the same problems and managed to resolve? (am on my 4th burnt disc - as have had other issues too!)

I'd be grateful for any help.

Thanks,

jas,

I don't have a direct experience, but browsing few guides I can see that they all use the i386 image.
Since this is exactly the error message you are getting its pretty safe to assume that you cannot install the 64 bits version.

PS. The i386 is what you quoted as "Standard personal computer (x86 architecture, PentiumTM, CeleronTM, AthlonTM, SempronTM"
