Problem with Brother MFC-620CN Printer under Feisty

Asked by Josh Eilken on 2007-06-19

Hello folks

I'm having problems getting a Brother MFC-620CN multifunction printer to work under Ubuntu 7.10. After following the various Howto's on the Ubuntu forums faithfully, the Brother CUPS and LPR drivers installed OK. However the printer refuses to print, simply stating "Receiving Data" on the display and then stopping before doing anything.

I've already done the workaround suggested by Brother (When receiving error "lpadmin:Unable to copy PPD file", running command "lpadmin -p (printer name) -E -v (DeviceURL) -P /usr/share/cups/model/(PPD file name)" and "sudo ln -s /etc/init.d/cupsys /etc/init.d/cups"

So, I'm stuck for what else to do. If anyone is able to help, it'd be most appreciated

Josh

Go to http://localhost:631/ , select manage printers, select modify printer, fill in, continue, fill in, continue, then provide the pdd-file, which you can find in the directory /usr/share/cups/model/
(And thanks for your post. The location of the driver, which I was trying to find, I found in your message :). Now for me it's working!)

Good luck!
