Networking misconfiguration

Asked by Jon Charge

I attempted to reconfigure my network, however, I've royally messed it up. I have internet connectivity, but I've also have a few mis-configurations I think. I was attempting to reconfigure my network to permit

DSL MODEM -> DESKTOP -> LAPTOP

But I don' need that anymore, and have undone what I could.

I staill have symptoms like, when attempting to restart my network...

--START PASTE--

jon@cloud:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
[sudo] password for jon:
 * Reconfiguring network interfaces... Ignoring unknown interface eth0=eth0.
                                                                         [ OK ]

--END PASTE--

Ignoring unknown interface?

And here is my interfaces file...

--START PASTE-- /etc/network/interfaces

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

--END PASTE--

What I would like to know...

1) How do I debug this

2) Is there a way to just reset the entire network settings to when it came "out of the box" reset to defaults?

Thank you for your help,

Jon

Then network manager will help you set the addresses, or you can use the file:

/etc/network/interfaces

http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/setting-up-an-network-interfaces-file/

Can you help with this problem?
