Can't connect to wireless adslrouter

Asked by Johannes

For some days (nights) now I've read in helpfiles and others similar problem in Launchpad and learned some things but I can't solve the problem with my internet connection via a D-link wireless adslmodem and router. In windows xp I got it to function just by disable all other networkcards and enter the key for the wireless network and then it just worked. I have Ubuntu 9.04 and a Toshiba A105-s2716 with Intel Pro/wireless 2200BG networkcard. I went through all steps in the helpfile and it seems like my computer doesn't get any ip number from the inbuildt dhcp server in the D-link modem. When I scan the computer for network it finds all 3 of them (a firewire net also) and says that the other 2 is disable. After the WLAN0 nothing is written. Not enabled, disabled or other as the helpfile speaks about. Tested to install the older network manager wich is in use in 8.04 (Hardy) and that one finds my wireless network and says also how strong the signal is in % but can not connect. 3 other computers is using the modem of 2 wireless without problem. In xp there is no problem to connect to the router wirelessly but in Ubuntu not. No IP address is given to my computer and if I try to enter the parameters by myself it doesn't help. Or am I doing it wrong? What is dhcp-client-id? As I understand it shouldn't be any problem at all, but just function if the settings is right.

Please, can somebody assist me? Thanks!

Ooops!
It's seems like I'm helping myself best...Accidentely I solved the problem! And now I'm connected to internet from my Ubuntu!!!

What I did: 1. I started the computer with the Live CD and when ready I filled in the name for wireless network and the key. Nothing more.

2. After that I installed Ubuntu again on the same partition where it already was with the same username and password. So I've done with windows when it breaks and I want to repair it. When ready I just rebooted and simsalabim, I was automaticly connected to the network and internet!!! Most of my settings and icon on desktop was still there but Ubuntu understood that I needed wireless network also.

Isn't that typical for Ubuntu?! Install the system and it just work! Installed xp once with sp2 and 7 things in my computer still needed drivers....
Probably my system was messed up by all tries to fix my serial modem before and a conflict between my networkcard and some packages or something like that occured.
